Rukmani gopalan gitanjali krishnan trust

Pooja, a final-year B.Com student at Valliammal College for Women in Chennai, embodies the resilience and determination that define true empowerment. Her journey from humble beginnings to becoming a confident and skilled young woman is a testament to the transformative power of education and support.

Born into a modest household, Pooja’s father works as a tailor, while her mother manages the home. Despite financial struggles, her parents prioritized her education, often borrowing money to ensure she could pursue her dreams. Their dedication bore fruit when Pooja graduated from school with an impressive 89%.

While Pooja eagerly awaited admission to a government college, delays in communication prompted her to join a private institution instead. Ironically, when the government college acceptance finally arrived, financial constraints made it unattainable. Undeterred, Pooja sought scholarships but faced several rejections before discovering the Gold Heart Foundation (GHF) through her brother’s friend. After clearing multiple interview rounds, Pooja was selected for the scholarship and introduced to GHF’s mission and transformative training programs.

Reflecting on her earlier struggles with confidence and public speaking, Pooja acknowledges the immense role GHF played in her personal growth. With their support, she completed a Tally course, rekindled her passion for dance, and became an active participant in college events. Now a senior, Pooja takes pride in mentoring her juniors by coordinating their dance performances for Freshers’ Day, honing her leadership and teamwork skills.

Pooja’s learning journey also extended to professional development. She attended a two-day seminar on digital marketing, gaining proficiency in video editing, poster design, and social media management. These skills have equipped her to navigate the digital world with confidence and ambition.

Recently, her college placement cell offered a free banking-related course, requiring candidates to clear an aptitude test and group discussion. With her determination and newfound skills, Pooja succeeded in both stages and secured admission to the course, which began on October 23, 2024. She is optimistic about building a career in a reputable company, enabling her to achieve independence and contribute to others in need.

Pooja expresses heartfelt gratitude to the Gold Heart Foundation and the Rukmani Trust for their unwavering support—both financial and emotional—that empowered her to face challenges with courage and conviction. Her journey is a testament to the strength of women who rise above obstacles and create a brighter future for themselves and their communities.

Pooja’s inspiring story exemplifies the transformative power of belief, opportunity, and relentless pursuit of one’s dreams, motivating countless others to follow in her footsteps.
